I don’t know about you, but Life over the last couple of years has thrown us some curve balls that have left many with an arm full of big emotions.

For many this has generated feelings of overwhelm, out of control, worry, frustration and even anger.

These aren’t just thoughts that swirl around inside our mind, they are also feelings that we experience and store within our bodies.

Feeling inexplicably tired or fatigued lately?

Have you been unwell and just don’t seem to be bouncing back like you normally do?

When was the last time you actually felt normal? Relaxed? Calm?

Hands up if you’re feelings centre alarm just sounded!

Ready to take control of your calm?

The reality is that we’ve all experienced-

● An economy rollercoaster that is challenging the hip pocket

● World stage health campaigns with messages missing references to hope

● Societal expectations that parenting is a cakewalk and we should be able to do it all (without a nervous breakdown!)

● Caring for our loved ones and keeping them safe during times of global uncertainty

● Balancing the demands of work and home

● Keeping up with self-care… Wait. What’s that?

(Hot tip: one bubble bath isn’t going to make you feel better, sis).

Let’s be honest, it’s been a lot to contend with.

Even the most robust and resilient of us have felt frayed around the edges.

If we’re not careful, stress, anxiety, and overwhelm can take over.

Sometimes our humanness

feels a little hard and heavy

I don’t know about you, but l ife can throw us some curve balls that leave us with an arm full of big emotions and feelings of overwhelm, out of control, worry, frustration and even anger. These aren’t just thoughts, they are also feelings and we store this stuff in our bodies.

When was the last time you actually felt normal? Relaxed? Calm?

Hands up if you’re feelings centre alarm just sounded!

The reality is that we’ve all experienced:

- An economy rollercoaster that is challenging the hip pocket

- World stage health campaigns with messages missing references to hope

- Societal expectations that parenting is a cakewalk and we should be able to do it all (without a nervous breakdown!)

- Caring for our loved ones and keeping them safe during times of global uncertainty

- Balancing the demands of work and home

- Keeping up with self-care… Wait. What’s that?

If we’re not careful, stress, anxiety, and overwhelm can take over.

You’ve heard this before, that we all have stuff to deal with. I know you have.

But the last few years have been exceptionally intense especially

when we’ve also faced regional fires and floods.

It’s been a lot to throw into the mix.

But can I ask you this – when was the last time you paused and asked yourself,

just how affected by life are you?

Do you sleep well every night?

Or do you toss and turn? Turning thoughts over and over in your head at 3am?

Are you calm with your kids and colleagues?

Or do you find yourself overreacting in anger for inexplicable reasons?

Do you experience overwhelm, anxiety or panic?

Do you feel out of control?

Was that an eye twitching I just noticed?

Or perhaps is your reaction to challenging questions to pick up your phone and scroll through your news feed to distract yourself and avoid the discomfort?

It’s uncomfortable, right? I get it. Whenever we deal with our stuff there is bound to be discomfort.

Let me assure you that when you explore the feelings centre, you will find where you store your stuff.

So often, in our Western culture we tend to avoid looking after our mental health.

We ignore the signals sent by our nervous system until we’re

completely dysregulated, or we get sick.

Your being well should have the same attention as anything else

in all that you juggle on a daily basis.

Imagine now for a moment, what life might be like if you could do a little each day to keep yourself in tip-top shape?

Your body is the barometer of your soul.

It holds onto mental + emotional stress until

you’re ready to allocate some time to

explore and learn another lesson.

Most people are familiar with the reference that we store the emotional weight of the world on our shoulders. This stress causes the muscles to tighten within the shoulders and/or lower back. Here’s the thing, you can’t physically take a deep breath if your shoulders are holding onto tension!

Those with anxiety will raise their hand and tell me their chest gets uncomfortable sometimes.

But here’s the thing, when you hold stress in your body over time, your wellbeing takes a hit. So too does everything else. When you hold onto the stress, you set the baseline of relaxation at the level of survival, rather than thriving.

When in baseline survival, we become reactive – to everything. Therefore stress impacts our relationships, sleep, clarity of thinking, and productivity. Our neural networks re-rout our physical energy into survival and we’re left feeling exhausted and overwhelmed.

How long can you continue to…

● toss and turn, losing sleep because you’re head is full of problems that can’t be solved?

● feel unworthy, not good enough or shame yourself because you didn’t tick everything off the to-do list?

● wake up in the morning, feeling exhausted even though you slept like the dead?

● start each day still feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders from yesterday’s problems?

● live with a mind that constantly races with a never-ending to-do list?

● feel out of control unless you plan and do everything for everyone?

● regularly ignore your body’s signals for rest and push through states of fatigue, exhaustion or resistance?

● punish yourself with negative self-talk or feel like a failure?

● your mood or outlook feels strained a lot of the time and you numb it by having a glass of wine and watching some mind-numbing television?

● your body always seems to feel fatigued and perhaps you are experiencing inexplicable aches or pains?

TAKE IT FROM a change facilitator who has survived cancer,

chronic illness and PTSD. Stress is no good for the body,

and it will never lead to a beautiful life.

Kaz Humphries

Hey there, I’m a reforming control freak stress head. Pleased to meet you!

Yep,I’m the first to admit that I know exactly what it feels like to have lost my calm centre and live the life of a hot mess.

Been there, resolved that and living life in a completely different way that makes me the priority of my world.

I am fascinated by our humanness. I have two decades of technical training and experience in what happens when we let stress dictate how well our nervous system can regulate itself.

Your baseline operating state should be filled with clear thinking, and balance between your logic and emotional responses.

It shouldn’t be founded in a state of neurological survival, and walking around on eggshells.

I'm a multi-modality practitioner with qualifications and experience as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, Wellness Coach, Kinesiology Practitioner, Intuitive Meditation, LEAP & NES Practitioner.

I am also a published author of This Is My Roar.

I am a self-confessed laughaholic and love being of service to the world with my humorous and positive approach to life, encouraging people to

choose to change and bloom from within.’

When your body is in fight or flight, everything is affected physically, mentally, emotionally and energetically.

Everything from imbalance in your hormonal systems, your wake-sleep cycle, your metabolism, your organ health, your happiness… even your humanity.

I have two decades of clinically observing that humans are not at their best when they are stressed out.

I’ve noticed the last three years something happening at a societal level. Community has changed. People are snappy, short tempered and extraordinarily frustrated.

People tell me they are busy, juggling all that life brings and so much more that was never expected.

They talk fast, and wear their busyness like a badge of honour, until I ask them “how does that feel?

Usually there’s breath holding (this is a survival instinct), or blowing out a big breath, and then fighting back tears of frustration.

I hear “I’m sorry” a lot.

Right now, more than ever, we need to learn how to manage all the stuff we’ve been hanging onto. We need to learn how to reset the nervous system.

We need to learn how to quieten the mind. Because when we do this, we can explore why we have felt uncomfortable.

We can heal.

Come and join me in A Taste of Calm Retreat and we can do this together. You’re not alone.

Restoring calm within your body, doesn’t mean you will never feel negative emotions again - like sadness, anger, or anxiety. Rather you will learn how to be courageous and feel emotions on purpose.

You will actively learn what signals are trying to be sent to your consciousness.
